Over the last 4 years of research and talking with lots of people I've found that Glandular Fever/Mononucleosis can cause more symptoms than almost any illness can. I think many people are scared when they have non-typical symptoms of the illness. Let me reassure you they probably are not atypical. Older adults are much less likely to experience the standard sore throat that younger adults get. A severe sore throat seems to be the hallmark of the illness for younger people. Also, if you're older you're much more likely to experience more severe and long lasting symptoms.

I become ill February 2012 at 46 and for three months slept 18 hours a day. I even wet the bed on many occasions as I was simply out for the count. I also noticed that my hair became very hard and was falling out. Three things I made sure I did was stay clean, eat healthy and think positive which was a huge task. I also found that driving was very difficult (I had not business behind the wheel) and when I tried to go for a walk I was unable to do so as my central nervous system was a mess. I walked a mile a day for three days then was not able to walk at all for two weeks as I bruised the bottoms of my feet so bad. I also had brown tongue, which was horrible as I’m a huge fan of dental care. Then I began to have digestive issues, which included bloating, gas and very loose stool. Vision problems, concentration, coordination and fatigue hit hard as well. I lost many friends, as they did not understand. Some even told me they thought I was faking it. Lost my job as well. The doctors were not knowledgeable/understanding and continued to give me meds for depression. That was the signal to see another doctor. To this day, I have yet to speak to a professional who truly understands this horrible illness. With that said, I can say that the strength I found within myself got me through this. It’s been almost two years now and I still experience brain fog, digestive hiccups and fatigue but I have come a long way baby. For anyone reading my post or posts in this forum please know you will get better with time, rest and taking care of yourself. Patience and faith will get you through this as it can be a long and bumpy ride.
