Since Mononucleosis is caused by a virus there is no cure, even though someday, maybe soon, there may be a vaccine. Generally the only treatment is supportive care. However, in cases where you have trouble breathing or swallowing because of throat swelling your Doctor may prescribe steroids like Prednisone which can greatly reduce the swelling and also give some relief to your other symptoms as well.
There has also been talk about the use of anti-virals in treating or shortening the duration of Glandular Fever/Mononucleosis, however every medical study has shown they have no effect on the illness.

I would love to know if there is a glandular fever research centre, or research dedicated to the prevention/cure/treatment of glandular. It seems that it is medically treated with a shrug of the shoulders and the 'you'll get over it' reaction. It's a life changing illness!! I know there are far worse things out there, but this has caused me (and countless others) to give up their usual lifestyle.
